Origanally an American teenage delinquent who was also a gang member, Jet became a cyborg when, while on the run from police officers, he encountered two Black Ghost operatives and escaped with their help, not knowing of their shady connections. Jet has high-end boosters installed into his feet, enabling him to fly airborne at speeds recorded at Mach 5 and making him useful at both aerial rescue and offense, as well as a scout for airborne enemies.

AppearanceEdit

Jet is a tall person with a lanky, yet athletic build, most popularly characterized by both his long, bright red windswept hair, and his pointy nose (in the 2012 "009 Re: CYBORG" film, he has long, blond hair and his nose is

considerably smaller). He usually wears a red, double breasted military uniform worn by the 00 Cyborgs, with padded shoulders and black arm bands just beneath them. On his waist is a black belt with a holster for his weapon, a gun with three shooting modes. Jet also wears knee-high, black boots, which also hold aerial boosters in his feet that activate by will. The color of his uniform varies; when he first started out as a Black Ghost cyborg it was green, and in the three-part episode "Conclusion Gods War" it was a dark blue. This also applied to the yellow scarf usually worn around his neck, with it being red in the same areas.

PersonalityEdit

Brash and hot tempered, Jet is defined as the most outspoken of the 00 Cyborgs. He is sarcastic and cynical, and often does not hesitate to express whatever is on his mind, no matter if what he has to say will offend his listeners. Due to his upbringing in the streets of New York City, Jet takes on a hardened and tough demeanor in order to cope with his own hardships, and has a "Fight first, think later" mentality that is usually applied in battle. His conflicting moods annoys and even aggravates own teammates sometimes, especially against the "older" members of the team like Albert Heinreich and Chang Changku. Because he lacked the presence of a strong authority in his life growing up, Jet ended up developing a strong sense of rebelliousness and reluctance to follow orders.

However, despite his attitude, Jet is often laidback and friendly, and harbors a strong loyalty to those he trusts, particularly his teammates; he holds some affection for Francoise Arnoul and is concerned for her, even going as far as hitting Joe Shimamura on the head for hurting her feelings. He has an even stronger grudge against Black Ghost, who tricked him into becoming a cyborg and would have used him like a weapon if he hadn't escaped, and thus is the most hostile toward anyone who is connected to the evil organization.

On occasion Jet is also revealed to have a hidden nurturing side, especially when it comes to children. He holds a close friendship with a young boy named Jimmy, who looks up to him as both a hero and possibly an older brother/father figure because of the absence of his real father. Jet cares deeply for the boy's safety and well being, and even went as far to save his mother Cathy from a hotel fire. In "The Awakening", it is revealed that his strong desire to make the psychic alien children fight for themselves stemmed from his immense guilt over his inability to make the other delinquent children from his time period do the same in order to protect themselves from those who picked on them.

HistoryEdit

Jet Link was born in West Side, New York City, USA. When he was a kid, he got into a car accident that would've been fatal if he hadn't recieved a blood donation from two other kids: Georgie? and Natalie. Natalie would later become his girlfriend.? ? During his teenage years, he was the leader of a gang called the "Blue Rose Gang", with Jet being an undefeated fighter. One day, he was engaged in a street fight with a rival gang that ended up with the death of Mac, the leader, after Jet stabbed him to death. The fight discovered by police, forcing him to look for an escape. At that moment, a group of Black Ghost operatives arrived and offered to help him elude his pursuers. Having no choice at the time, Jet decided to leave with them, only to wake up sometime later as a cyborg in a Black Ghost facility. The realization of his trickery embedded deep into his mind that he developed a hatred towards Black Ghost for what happened.

Orignally, Jet was supposed to be the designated 001 cyborg, but when Ivan Whisky showed more promise in his development process, he ended up as "002". His early arrival, however, made him a part of the 00 cyborgs' first generation, along with Ivan, Albert Heinreich, and Francoise Arnoul. Due to problems in his initial design (weak acceleration module, less fuel intake) during his test runs, Jet was cryogenically frozen until more advanced technology and procedures were developed. Several years after being awoken from cryogenic sleep, Jet Link escaped the clutches of Black Ghost with Albert, Francoise, and Ivan by using the abilities bestowed upon them; they were also joined by Chang, Geronimo, Jr.Pyunma, and Great Britain in their escape. Around this time, Joe as "009" had already awoken from his sleep by Ivan via telepathy.

AbilitiesEdit

Jet has high-quality jet boosters installed in his feet, allowing him to reach high altitudes up to 3000 meters and go as fast as Mach 5. He has an early version of 009's acceleration module, which allows him to also move at the speed of light, albeit temporarily due to technical flaws. He is also strong enough to carry up to three people at a time while airborne. In "Conclusion Gods War", Jet's abilities were upgraded by Ivan to the point where his body became extremely light, resulting in becoming fast enough for his boosters to leave a trail that sets anything caught in it on fire.

Besides the boosters, Jet is an experienced fighter from engaging in gang confrontations, so much that he is able to use a motorcycle to take down a group of rival gang members. He also has some artistic ability in the 2001 anime, when he painted the front of their ship, the? Dolphin.

TriviaEdit

  • In the first Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past Manga series, also made by Cyborg: 009 author Shotaro Ishinomori, there is a character named "Roam" who shares Jet's physical appearance and flight abilities. He also has the ability to transform into a hawk, solidifying his connection to Jet. (the manga can be found here. )
  • In both the 1968 and 1979 televised versions of? Cyborg 009, Jet's origins as a gang member on West Side were kept from the original manga. However, in the 2001 anime, it was changed into a slightly different, friendlier version where Jet was only a street delinquent instead.
  • A reference to Jet appeared in the Heart Gold & Soul Silver arc of the Pokemon Adventures manga. The character shares a similar apperance to him, and is literally named Jet.
