Sunrise, Inc. (formerly Nippon Sunrise and Sunrise Studios) is one of Japan's largest animation studios. The company is currently a subsidiary of Namco Bandai Holdings.
Founded in 1972, they have produced some of the most popular anime in Japan and the world. Examples include: Tiger and Bunny, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, Code Geass and Keroro Gunso
Their most profitable and well known property is the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise.
In 1979, the company did a joint project with Toei Animation to animate the second Cyborg 009 series. However, while the ratings of the series were well enough to get its run extended through 1980, Sunrise abruptly pulled out of their contract with Toei and the production, which caused it to end prematurely at episode 50.
